Screenland Drive

Named after a small street in Burbank California, Prescription Film's Screenland Drive is a darkly comic story of a love triangle gone awry. It centers on Pike (Eric Matheny), a screenwriter, who has been hired to write the latest installment of the low-budget slasher series, Manslayer - Part 7. His real-life ex-girlfriend (Kellie Waymire) and best friend (Eddie McClintock "Stark Raving Mad") start dating and everything gets messy. Soon Pike's reality begins to fall apart and his writing takes on a twisted life of its own when he invites his ex and best friend to play victims in his slasher film fantasy.

With this in mind, we felt the score needed to be quirky to reflect the characters, and also have drastic changes of style to differentiate the "movie within a movie" feel as the campy horror film unfolds within the context of the original movie.

We relied heavily on percussion, kalimba & vibes and unusual samples for the majority of the score. Because the movie was also very soundtrack driven and featured a cameo by Maynard James Keener (the lead singer of the band "Tool" and "A Perfect Circle") even in the more genre driven "horror" sections of the film, we mixed the traditional instrumentation of strings and brass with an alternative rock feel using electric guitar and drums.

The story was written and directed and produced by Thomas Bradford and co- produced by Sean McClintock. We have worked with the director on some of his previous short projects and really enjoyed his fresh perspectives and energy so it was great to have the opportunity to do the music for his feature directorial debut.
